Sue Berce, Curator Abstract Artist and Curator at the UC Gallery
Sue began her art life in 2012, after cancer and other challenges. Her background is in education as a teacher and Middle School principal. As a self-taught artist, she found her "voice" in abstraction. She sculpts the canvasses with newspaper and gesso to give them depth and texture. Color applied and wiped off creates the motion in her work. "Art saved me", Sue says. Learning to deal with the loss of her husband, cancer and other difficult things in life led her to art and the salvation it brought. Art takes one into a different realm of the human experience. Sue is a docent at the Milwaukee Art Museum and enjoys the many tours given throughout the year. The creation of the Gallery and the wonderful resident artists bring fulfillment and joy.
